New Young Adult Fantasy Returns to the Perilous Worlds of Celtic Mythology…and Middle School
Ashland, Oregon – Open the door and you never know what will wander in—a pale man stealing lamplight, a glittering Star, or a pack of baying hounds and their fearsome horned master. In Wolfproof, the first installment of Maureen Doyle McQuerry’s Narnia-esque trilogy, published in 2006 by Idylls Press, middle-schoolers Timothy James and Sarah Maxwell and their friend Jessica battled an ancient one-eyed Evil with the help of a mysterious old woman and a magical wolf.
Idylls Press, whose motto is “publishing the Catholic imagination,” has now published the exciting sequel, Travelers Market. In this latest installment of the Wolfproof trilogy, the perilous worlds of myth and middle school once again collide as Timothy James, Sarah and Jessica race against time and their old nemesis, Balor the One-Eyed, to save Timothy’s mother from the poisonous bite of a magical rat. In the process, and with the aid of both old friends and new, they also take on the difficult challenge of restoring peace and harmony to a troubled parallel universe known only as “the Travelers Market.”
“These stories provide entertainment that neither talks down to the young nor insults the intelligence of adult readers,” says Idylls Press publisher, Debra Murphy. “Best of all, in the tradition of fantasists like C.S. Lewis, they speak to perennial values rooted in both ancient mythology and Christianity, all without the moralizing that can kill a good story. We’re proud to be bringing these tales to the reading public, young and old, and proud, too, that, like its predecessor, Travelers Market has already been nominated for a Cybil Award, the premier Web award for children’s literature.”
Idylls Press is promoting Travelers Market by making an electronic excerpt of the book freely available on its website, www.idyllspress.com, beginning in November. Idylls Press will also focus on obtaining reviews from a wide range of venues. “We believe word-of-mouth can be the best marketing tool for this unique series of books,” says publisher Debra Murphy. “We’ll be delighted to send review copies to experienced reviewers, particularly those interested in YA fantasy with mythological or Christian themes. Anyone interested in finding out more should send an email query to idyllspress@gmail.com.”
Travelers Market will be available in select bookstores, including some of the larger Pauline Books and Media Centers, as well as from all leading online booksellers and direct from the publisher, via its website, www.idyllspress.com.
